There. I've said it! Never let it be said that Curt Anderson is afraid to take a stand on the issues.

*Up until recently Oregon and New Jersey were the only two states that didn't allow pump your own gas. See link.

    Oregon is the second to last state to allow self pumping of gas, ain't?

    I'm with the "pump your own gas" side !!!

    My big complaint is about the people who pump there own, then leave their car blocking others from using the pump while they go in and pay for their gas, maybe buy coffee and do a little shopping and pick up a few things instead of moving their car first so that others can use the pump !! 😠

    I don't have a lot of practice pumping gasoline. So whenever we drive out of state my wife and I team up to accomplish the job. She reads and handles the credit card instructions; I pump. Sometimes it requires one of us to go inside to pay. More than once we find out the pump we selected was out-of-order.

    I remember once in California the instructions said pay first then pump. I was flummoxed by that. How I am supposed to guess how much gas I'd need.

    Anyway, what is so great about getting out of the car, sometimes in bad weather, having your hands smelling of gasoline, and dealing with all the other hassles?

    Btw, it's not like there is some great savings to pumping your own gas. No self-pump New Jersey is comparable to its neighboring states. Same with partial self-pump Oregon. See link.

    I actually worked at a self/full serve gas station in my late teens. It was a great job for a 10PM to 6AM gig on the weekends. It was kind fun checking the oil and the tire pressure and wind shield squeegeeing. I even fixed flat tires. Good times.
